Task 4a – Colour
a) Colours of Light: What are the primary colours of light? What happens when you mix two or three of them together? Include an image from the web (include a reference) and make sure you are using the correct colour names. HINT: ‘Magenta’, not ‘pink’!
b) Filters: In the lesson we will use lights and light filters and simulation software to explain how theatre lights can be made to shine specific colours on the stage. Along with your photos and diagrams from the web, explain how colour filters work.
c) Coloured Objects: In the lesson we will use light filters and different objects and simulation software to explain how different coloured objects look different under different colours of light. Write up your findings. HINTS: What does a red object look like under a blue light? What should a yellow object look like under a red light? What is being absorbed and what is being reflected?
d) Applying to Lighting Design: How could the things we’ve observed and written about in a)-c) be used in theatre/stage productions? Why is it important for the lighting engineer to work closely with the stage and costume designers?
