Standing Waves

Standing wave

a) Download the Standing Waves practical sheet and work through it.  You will be calculating the wavelength of a 2kHz wave and comparing it to the real value to see how accurate it is, and doing the same with the speed of sound.

b) Write your investigation up under the usual headings, starting with explaining the theory behind standing waves that are caused by interference (this is a good place to start, but don’t use only that source) and evaluating the practical.

c) You can also investigate the nodes of a standing wave using this practical sheet.  Include at least a photo and brief explanation of the activity, and preferably some calculations using the distances between nodes and the wave speed formula to show in more detail what you observed.
